Overview The Pathology Team Leader performs and demonstrates proficiency and understanding of grossing the specimen, fixation, cutting, mounting on slides and staining of tissues for microscopic examination by the dermatopathologist. Also provides daily onsite supervision and leadership of the derm path team.

Responsibilities Leadership: Maximizes team efficiency, productivity and teamwork of Histotechnicians and Laboratory Assistants by providing daily communication, supervision and direction in concordance with company philosophy, goals and objectives. Attends quarterly and monthly team leader meetings. Leads approved team meetings at appropriate intervals and ensures that time is productive. Creates and updates as needed dermpath staff work schedules. Approves PTO requests, maintaining adequate staffing levels on a daily basis. Reviews timesheets and approves hours for biweekly payroll processing. Provides manager with a weekly update on team performance, overtime, and attendance; schedule management; specimen volume data and projected staffing needs; and other pertinent issues. Assists manager and Human Resources in hiring new team members and provides comprehensive orientation. Completes 90 day and annual performance reviews and administers disciplinary action when required. Perform other related duties as assigned. Pathology: Accessioning, and grossing the tissue which includes measuring, inking and cutting, and putting the information into the computer under the patient name. Processing the tissues on the processors and embedding the tissues on a daily basis. Cutting the tissues on a microtome, mounting on slides for staining. Staining the tissues for an H & E stain. May perform immunohistochemistry or special stains on tissue by request of dermatopathologist. Daily maintenance of all equipment, changing solutions and maintaining temperatures is necessary. Routine filing of blocks. Troubleshooting as needed and working with the dermatopathologist to maintain efficient workflow. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: Associate's Degree in a science related field is required; Bachelor's Degree in a science related field is preferred. Successful completion of a histology training course, along with ASCP certification is required. Minimum of 1 year of dermatology experience, along with demonstrated leadership skills is preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated leadership experience. Must be able to demonstrate leadership by serving as an example to others with regard to professional behavior, handling multiple tasks, maintaining a positive attitude, and in response to organizational change. Ability to remain compliant with HIPAA requirements. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Proficiency with EMR and LIS. #J-18808-Ljbffr
