What’s the role?
Outstanding opportunity for a Senior Reporter to join Australia's largest media organisation. Work for NewsCorp's breaking Newswire service providing valuable content for all mastheads, and the Australian as well as external clients.
This role will work within our existing team to cover political news out of Canberra. This is a full time, permanent position based out of News Corp office in Parliament House.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pitch and generate original news stories and ideas
2. Break political news stories
3. Maintain an accurate and up to date calendar
4. File engaging copy to strict deadlines
5. Develop and maintain good relationships with key political players
6. Liaise with CoS (Politics) on daily coverage, planning and key events
7. Respond to breaking news events outside of rostered hours when required
Who are you?
8. At least four years of journalism experience, preferably in political reporting
9. Ability to cut through spin and get to the heart of issues in an engaging way for readers
10. Quick to pick up the phone to follow a lead
11. Possesses a proven network of contacts
12. Experienced in covering breaking news
13. Excellent time management skills
14. Capable of multitasking and working under strict deadlines
15. Team player with strong communication skills
16. Keen attention to detail
17. Able to simplify complex topics for a broad audience
18. Flexibility around working day and hours
