As a Technician Assistant you will be a valued member of a team, working in both workshop settings and out in the field on domestic exercises and deployments. A Technician Assistant serves in the Corps of the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME).
You will assist and provide valuable support to maintenance technicians by servicing, repairing and modifying a wide range of Army equipment. This may include vehicles, weapon systems, workshop equipment, generators, Abrams Tanks and other Armoured Fighting Vehicles.
In this role you’ll have the opportunity to grow your knowledge of maintenance processes and procedures whilst gaining experience working on various types of equipment.
Your duties:
1. Assist qualified technical trades personnel in the conduct of technical maintenance and support tasks
2. Perform crane operations in support of equipment maintenance
3. Employ safe working practices in a workshop environment
4. Operate hand tools and handheld power tools
5. Work with specialist teams on advanced equipment
6. General soldiering duties, such as manning defensive positions, patrolling, traffic control, camouflaging of vehicles and field equipment, and navigation.
You don’t need any prior experience to join. You’ll learn everything you need to know about your trade through your Initial Employment Training (IET). Upon completion, your first posting will likely be to one of the large Combat Service Support Battalions (CSSB) located in Brisbane, Darwin, Adelaide or Townsville.
