Alfred Infant Child and Youth Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service is friendly to infants, children, young people and their families/carers.
We provide accessible mental health services inclusive of family, friends and support networks.
We are a specialist, multi-disciplinary and intensive care mental health service incorporating the lived and living experience of family peer specialists and youth peer workers.
Our service is divided into two streams 0-11 and 12-26 years, and includes specialist services in the areas of perinatal care, neurodevelopmental presentations, eating disorders and outreach support.

What you’ll be doing
The mental health nurse has a case management role in addition to contributing to psychiatric and neurodevelopmental assessment and interventions, working with young people aged 12 - 26 years with an intellectual disability and co-occuring mental health disorder. The role will work directly 1:1 with the young person including parent, family and group work. The successful applicant will also take part in health screening for all clients across the clinic and will provide nursing reviews on the Eating Disorders Program, performing weekly vital sign observations and physical health assessments, with support from the Consultant Psychiatrist and broader treating team.
About you
Essential
Registration with AHPRA as a nurse
Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent
Skills and experience as evidenced by two or more years post qualifying experience within Mental Health Services, paediatric/adolescent experience. Disability and MH experience would be desirable.
The successful applicant must be passionate about working with people with intellectual disabilities; specialist training in the dual disability sector is not required, with professional development opportunities provided inservice, external and through collegial support.
Desirable
Completion of the Developmental Psychiatry Course
Experience working with clients with intellectual or cognitive disabilities
Demonstrated commitment to continued learning
Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and the other relevant legislation and policies.
