This role will be part of a new program called Safe Wayz which coordinates an integrated response for children under the age of criminal responsibility (currently 10 years in NSW) with problematic or harmful sexual behaviours (PHSBs).
Safe Wayz adopts a strength-based, family focused and culturally centred trauma-informed approach to working with children and families to help prevent behaviours from escalating.
This role will coordinate primary prevention initiatives, provide early support for children and families to address behaviours when they are first identified, and coordinate pathways into specialist counselling services for children and families who need them. The role will manage a clinical case load and also coordinate cultural consultation to support non-Aboriginal clinicians working with Aboriginal children and families.
The position is based at Surry Hills with travel across the district as required.
All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.
1. Relevant qualification in Bachelor of Social Work which provides eligibility for membership to Australian Association of Social Workers or four year Degree in Psychology, full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia and a minimum of 7 years post full registration experience.
2. Extensive post graduate clinical experience and skills in child centred, family focussed counselling, support and case management to address problematic or harmful sexual behaviours with young children and their carers.
3. Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
4. Demonstrated ability to provide culturally responsive counselling services to individuals and their families and demonstrated understanding of the legal and policy framework governing child protection in NSW.
5. Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff.
6. Demonstrated commitment to clinical and cultural supervision and professional education and, experience providing clinical supervision and leading education and teaching to staff and/or students.
7. Current NSW drivers licence and willingness to travel in the course of employment.
