About the Role
The Children & Youth Library Officer role will contribute to a high-energy and dynamic team which delivers programming across ages 0-25 years at Darebin Libraries. The role reports to the Middle Years Programs Librarian and will have a focus on supporting the development and delivery of programs for primary school age children and support the delivery of early years programming.
To achieve this, you will:
* Contribute to the development, planning, delivery and evaluation of programs with a focus on literacy, lifelong learning and social connection for children, families and youth across the Darebin Library community.
* Prepare and deliver developmentally appropriate and engaging Rhyme Time and Storytime programs to large groups in the library, as well as Storytimes for schools and community groups.
* Support the Middle Years Programs Librarian in the planning and delivery of after school programs, school holiday programs and one-off events for primary school age children.
* Support the Middle Years Programs Librarian to build effective collaborations with program providers, community members and organisations, and across Council to identify partnership opportunities to enhance sustainable program delivery.
* Contribute to the planning and implementation of community engagement strategies and activities to promote early years literacy and lifelong learning, both in the library and through outreach programs and partnerships within the community.
* Contribute to the successful implementation of a range of programs, displays and initiatives which promote literacy and learning, such as Children’s Book Week and the Big Summer Read.
* Contribute to the financial management of the events and programs budget.
* Undertake daily desk shifts including a requirement to work one evening shift per week as a part of standard hours, and requirement to work a minimum of one rostered Saturday and one rostered Sunday shift in each 8-week cycle. Penalty rates apply to hours worked outside the span of ordinary hours.
Skills & Experience
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:
* A post-secondary school qualification (Diploma of Certificate) in Library and Information Services, Early Childhood, Education, Youth Work or relevant field and/or less formal qualifications with relevant work skills and experience working with children and/or youth is required.
* High level knowledge of physical and digital resources for children and youth. Experience in and/or knowledge of customer service, primarily in a library, retail or hospitality environment.
* Experience in delivering activities and programs in a library or community setting.
* Experience in successfully planning, delivering and reporting on programming and events.
* Bilingual skills are an advantage.
* A current Working with Children Card is essential.
