About the role•Casual Positions•Based in Regional Victoria & Melbourne Metro. Travel to multiple sites may be required.Position OverviewDeaf Children Australia (DCA) is a not-for-profit organisation that supports deaf and hard-of-hearing children, young people and their families to remove barriers to their personal development and social inclusion.DCA provides a range of services to families with deaf and hard-of-hearing children. These services help families build confidence and connections with others in the community.After learning their child is deaf or hard of hearing, parents have many questions. DCA's Parent Mentor program helps support and connect parents who have either received a recent diagnosis for their child or who are further along in their child's hearing loss journey.Our Parent Mentor Program is available state-wide across Victoria and Queensland. Trained Parent Mentors meet with families through home visits, ZOOM, or phone contact, in local community playgroups or at Early Intervention Centre playgroups or at parent group events such as POD Support Network (POD) groups.DCA is looking to recruit Parent Mentors in Melbourne and regional areas. This is a casual role with comprehensive training provided. Applicants would need to have a level of understanding of the needs of a baby/young child with hearing loss, have reasonable availability ( school hours are workable), possess effective communication skills, and an interest in working with children and families.Skills and experience1.Must be the parent of a deaf or HoH child2.Must be a minimum of 6 years along your hearing loss journey3.Excellent communication skills4.Good admin skills5.Current driver's license & ability to utilise own vehicle6.Demonstrated physical capability to perform job requirementsScreening requirements of the rolePlease note that successful candidates will need to undertake the following clearances:
