The Role
The Consultant Anaesthetist delivers anaesthetic care across a spectrum of elective surgical specialties, collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
The role involves participating in a 24/7 roster, under the guidance of the Head of Unit Anaesthetics and Director of Medical Services. This includes providing emergency anaesthetic services for emergency surgeries, procedural expertise (e.g., Intubation and vascular access), and supporting Critical Care Unit (CCU) and resuscitation services, such as Medical Emergency Team (MET) and Code Blue calls.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Administering perioperative and operative anaesthetic services for patients undergoing surgical, medical, obstetric, or investigational procedures, including continuous monitoring during these procedures.
2. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to manage the day surgery unit's work, particularly the anaesthesia component.
3. Providing acute resuscitation services for medical, surgical, and trauma emergencies, including retrieval services.

The Facility
The facility serves around 12,000 acute inpatients and 17,000 Emergency Department patients annually. It offers a wide range of services including general surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, urology, ophthalmology, dentistry, endoscopy, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, and pediatric care. Additionally, it hosts visiting specialists in areas such as urology, vascular surgery, ear, nose, and throat (ENT), pediatric surgery, upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgery, and in vitro fertilization (IVF). The facility is equipped with a Critical Care Unit that provides ventilation and hemofiltration. Surgical services benefit from the support of both specialist and general practitioner anesthetists.
The Requirements
* Primary medical qualification registered or registrable with the Medical Board of Australia
* Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetics (or assessment by the college that the position holder is suitable for the position)
