We are seeking an experienced Karitane Aboriginal Family Support Worker to work at our Campbelltown (Karitane Campbelltown Campus & Village Connect Campbelltown). The Karitane Aboriginal Family Support Worker) role will serve multiple functions within a multidisciplinary team at Karitane. They will work directly with parents / carers from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, with a priority caseload of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and carers, to support access to child development and other necessary health and community services, in a timely manner. They will work directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and carers, to support access to health and community services, in a timely manner. This role will support the Aboriginal playgroup, ‘Lil Possums’ which has been run in partnership with Bonnyrigg Public School for over 20 years. Noting: We acknowledge the importance of consulting with First Nations representatives as we develop our team structure. It is our plan to engage and consult with staff to ensure that the team reflects the needs and values of the First Nations workforce. This consultation will occur once we have our team assembled, allowing us to incorporate diverse perspectives and foster an inclusive environment. Karitane Aboriginal Family Support Worker will work with internal and external stakeholders to share knowledge and feedback on practice, ensuring our services are offered in a culturally informed and led way. The Karitane Aboriginal Family Support Worker will also support the development and maintenance of partnerships and collaborative work across Aboriginal led services in the community. Key Responsibilities: The Karitane Aboriginal Family Support Worker is responsible for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. The position is required to work as part of the Karitane multidisciplinary team and will provide: • Support Lil Possums playgroup in partnership with Bonnyrigg Public School • Connect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families that access Karitane’s residential unit and parenting centres either in person or virtually to ensure that their health, psychosocial, and cultural needs are prioritised and integrated into care delivery. • Act as an advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, providing guidance and support throughout their healthcare journey. • Work closely with staff to promote culturally appropriate practices and enhance understanding of Aboriginal health issues. • Attend local Aboriginal communities and organisations to facilitate access to services and resources. Selection Criteria: (Each criteria below must be addressed in your cover letter) 1. This is an identified Aboriginal Position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander descent, have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with their local Aboriginal community. An applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification, and exemption is claimed under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW 2. Relevant qualifications in health, health-related or community services discipline and / or relevant experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. 3. Experience working with Aboriginal communities in healthcare or social services settings. 4. Experience with facilitating Aboriginal Playgroups and supporting parents. 5. Demonstrated experience working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide care coordination for families. 6. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 1. Temporary part-time position in accordance with the Named NSW (Non-Declared) Affiliated Professional Staff and Associated (AHO) Staff Agreement 2022 Karitane services are provided at a number of sites within the Sydney Metropolitan and Regional NSW Areas. 2. The majority of Karitane services close for approximately two weeks over the Christmas/New Year period, during which time employees are required to take leave. 3.
