The Role We are seeking a detail-oriented Clinical Coding Coordinator to join our team, reporting to the Manager of Health Information Services. This role is vital to the Clinical Coding Team at MQ Health, as the successful candidate will provide training, monitoring, auditing, and support processes that ensure improvements in accurate code assignment. Additionally, the role will deliver ongoing education to the coding team, including coordinating and executing the Trainee Clinical Coder Program when necessary. This role is also essential for maintaining accurate data collection for all patient care and the subsequent reporting capabilities of MQ Health activities. Key accountabilities include (but are not limited to): To classify (code) diseases and procedures for inpatient episodes using the 3M Code Finder and ICD 10 AM coding books / eBooks, dictionary, coding authority and any other resources when necessary in accordance with National Coding Standards. Direct, co-ordinate and undertake audits in regards to coding, DRG assignment and other health information collection on a regular basis as required to ensure that information is of a high quality, with consistent current best practice. Present audit results or education as required to key stakeholders (internal and external to Health Information Services). Assist and mentor clinical coders with coding accuracy, competency, coding queries and required follow-up with clinicians. Revise, develop, design and deliver customised education and training programs. Continuously review current processes to improve workflow efficiency. Monitor and distribute daily coding and auditing requirements based on current WIP Coding report and outstanding PICQ. Coordinate health fund contract audits. Assist with education sessions for clinicians in regards to coding and documentation. Coordinate regular clinical coder meetings. About You You will have worked in a similar role or demonstrated tertiary-level clinical coding skills. Having collaborated with various stakeholders, you will possess a high level of written and verbal communication skills and have the capacity for logical and objective thinking. You will be skilled at analysing complex and unprecedented situations, exercising above-average judgement regarding the relevance, time sensitivity, and accuracy of information. You tend to exhibit above-average initiative and are prepared to assume responsibility.
