Job Description
We are offering 6-12 week contracts for Child Health Nurses. These roles involve delivering professional, evidence-based healthcare to children and the community, with a special emphasis on Aboriginal health. Ideal candidates will have experience in both practice settings and working with Aboriginal communities.
Key Responsibilities for Child Health Nurse:
* Provide professional evidence-based child health care to individuals, families, and the community utilising a holistic and culturally acceptable approach.
* Conduct comprehensive health checks from birth to school entry, including a school entry health assessment in collaboration with the school health nurse.
* Coordinate and assist with the Enhanced Aboriginal Child Health Schedule (EACHS) for children aged 0-5 years, particularly for those at high risk.
* Perform postnatal depression screening for mothers during 6-8 week and 3-4 month baby checks at GOS, referring to specialist services as needed.
* Administer immunisations and record them in the Australian Immunisation Register according to the WA Immunisation Schedule for the 0-5 age group.
* Develop strategies to ensure timely immunisations and follow up to ensure full immunisation by 63 months of age.
* Participate in multi-disciplinary interagency meetings, especially with the Department of Child Protection and Family Support (DCPFS), and liaise with clinical staff to support at-risk families.
* Conduct health checks for children in care within 30 days of referral.
* Provide health education to families to develop parenting skills through culturally appropriate parenting group sessions.
* Ensure access to information on child and family services.
* Submit monthly reports in line with the child health funding agreement.
* Coordinate patient referrals for specialist care with the Paediatrician for children aged 0-5 years.
Qualifications:
* Preferred: Post Graduate Qualifications preferably in Remote Area Nursing or Child Health Nursing
* Experienced Maternal/Child Health Nurse
* Current registration with AHPRA.
* Proven experience in child health nursing and Aboriginal health.
* Strong understanding of holistic and culturally appropriate healthcare practices.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Proficient in record-keeping and reporting.
