The role:
Based in Darwin, your role will involve both high and low acuitytransfers within the ‘Top End’ of Australia,interstate, and internationally. Working from bases in Darwinand elsewhere you will experience many transfers from remoteIndigenous Communities.
Each role is full-time and based in Darwin. Theseopportunities are available for 6- or 12-month placements which areaccredited by ACEM, ANZCA and CICM. Start dates align with NTmedical terms in February and August annually.
Our Training:
Previous retrieval experience is not required asCareFlight’s comprehensive induction program will build onthe critical care knowledge that you bring with you to thisjob.
This package includes a place on our Pre Hospital Trauma Course(PHTC), training in Interhospital and International retrievalmedicine, and aviation training including Helicopter UnderwaterEscape Training (HUET) and other techniques.
Our ongoing bi-weekly education program includes formal teachingsessions, guest speakers, scenario-based training, as well asonsite teaching in other locations throughout the NorthernTerritory.
CareFlight is also an accredited training site to undertake theDiploma in Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine (DipPHRM),administered by the Conjoint Committee of Pre-Hospital andRetrieval Medicine (CCPHRM).
Essential Criteria:
To be successful in this role you will:
5. be registered (or be eligible for registration) with AHPRA to practice in Australia;
6. have completed your primary exams;
7. have a minimum of five years’ postgraduate with critical care experience – high-level airway and resuscitation skills;
8. have 3 months experience in ICU (or critical care rotation);
9. have 3-6 months experience in Anaesthetics;
10. have 6 months experience in Emergency;
11. have 6 months experience in Paediatrics (or 12 months mixed rotation);
12. have the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with excellent communication skills;
13. have completed ETM, EMST or equivalent;
14. successfully complete the CareFlight functionality (fitness) assessment;
15. be prepared to successfully undertake Helicopter Underwater Escape Training;
16. hold a current passport (plus visa if required); and
17. hold a current driver’s licence with the ability to drive when on scene (if required).
The following will also be desirable:
18. Experience in obstetrics.
