What you’ll do Principal Engineer to lead the design and implementation of our Infrastructure as Code (IaC) framework using Terraform Enterprise and Ansible. Role will shape our client’s enterprise infrastructure automation strategy, enabling self-service provisioning, and ensuring robust governance and security across our cloud and on-premises environments. The framework will be implemented enterprise-wide, supporting both cloud and on-premises environments. It must be scalable and designed with cost controls and comprehensive monitoring. Candidate must have experience building similar frameworks and evaluating cloud-native vs. Terraform solutions. Due to the secure nature of this role, Australian citizens with a security clearance will be preferred for this role. Key responsibilities Design and Architect: Lead the design and development of a comprehensive IaC framework using Terraform Enterprise and Ansible for consistent, repeatable infrastructure provisioning across cloud and on-premises environments. Framework Development: Create and maintain modular, reusable Terraform code and modules to streamline infrastructure deployments and enforce standardisation. Governance and Security: Implement robust enterprise governance and security controls within the IaC framework, integrating with policy-as-code tools (e.g., Sentinel) and ensuring compliance. Self-Service Enablement: Design and implement enterprise self-service capabilities within Terraform Enterprise, allowing development teams to provision resources independently within defined guardrails. Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers, fostering a culture of excellence in IaC practices. Collaboration: Work closely with architects, security, operations, and development teams to align on infrastructure strategy and implementation. Tooling and Integration: Evaluate and integrate tools and technologies to enhance the IaC framework, such as configuration and secrets management, and monitoring. Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for the IaC framework, including design, usage guidelines, and troubleshooting. show more show less Qualifications Here’s what you need Terraform Expertise: Deep understanding of Terraform concepts: modules, state management, remote backends, and providers (AWS, Azure, and VSphere). Terraform Enterprise: Proven experience designing and implementing solutions using Terraform Enterprise features: workspaces, policy as code run tasks, private module registry, team management. Ansible Expertise: Proven experience in designing, developing, and implementing Ansible playbooks and roles for configuration management, application deployment, and orchestration. Cloud Platforms: Extensive experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS or Azure). IaC Framework Design: Strong understanding of IaC principles and best practices, emphasizing modularity, reusability, and maintainability. Security and Governance: Experience implementing enterprise security and governance controls within IaC frameworks, including policy enforcement, access control, and audit logging. CI/CD: Experience integrating Terraform with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps). Leadership: Proven ability to lead and mentor engineers, drive technical initiatives, and influence decision-making.
