Your new role
As the In-House Counsel, you will report directly to the General Counsel and provide high-quality legal services to various stakeholders within the business. Your primary focus will be on property-related, construction and commercial transactions. Key responsibilities include:
* Preparing, negotiating, and finalising commercial transactions and documentation, including leasing, construction, consultancy, and service agreements.
* Managing external legal advisors for outsourced legal document preparation.
* Handling minor disputes such as debt recovery actions and liaising with company administrators, liquidators, and receivers.
* Providing legal advice on government regulations, property interests, taxes, security, and finance documentation to minimise business risk.
* Conducting research and analysis of legislative developments and legal issues.
* Assisting in the development and maintenance of legal policies, procedures, and training programs.
* Offering guidance and feedback to the Finance, Commercial, and Legal Team.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* A law degree from an Australian university.
* Admission to practise as a solicitor in an Australian jurisdiction.
* A current ACT practising certificate or the ability to obtain one.
* A minimum of 3-5 years post-admission legal experience, preferably in a transactional commercial or property/construction-related practice group.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
* A proactive, can-do attitude and the ability to work autonomously.
