The Royal Hobart Hospital and Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for multiple Staff Specialist – Anaesthetist vacancies.
Applications are sought for Specialist Anaesthetists with subspecialty expertise in cardiac and paediatric anaesthesia and also those with a general background.
Applicants will be expected to have a strong clinical background, in addition to experience in research, teaching, quality assurance and administration/management in a public hospital.

The Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine provides a comprehensive range of general and specialist clinical anaesthesia services including trauma, paediatric surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, vascular and obstetrics specialities. Anaesthesia services are also provided for Interventional Cardiology, Endoscopy Unit and Medical Imaging Department including Interventional Radiology, CT/MRI and PET scan. We also provide an Acute Pain Service and Perioperative Medicine service.
The Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine is a high-quality specialist teaching department with significant research activity. We participate in multi-centre research trials and encourage local research. We have strong links with University of Tasmania Faculty of Health Science and the Menzies Research Centre.

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available.

Experience in Obstetric, Neurosurgical and Paediatric Anaesthesia in the last 2 years.Clinical exposure at a tertiary hospital standard within the last 12 months.For subspecialty cardiac anaesthesia:
Recent fellowship or consultant practice in cardiac anaesthesia.Ability to perform and interpret comprehensive intraoperative trans-oesophageal echocardiography, with completion or near-completion of an appropriate training program.For subspecialty paediatric anaesthesia:
Recent fellowship or consultant practice in a tertiary paediatric centre.Ability to provide neonatal anaesthesia, including to premature infants for major surgery.Details of Appointment Multiple Permanent, Fixed Term and Casual vacancies available:
Permanent full-time or part-time work (with on-call), working at least 38 hours and up to maximum 76 hours per fortnight commencing from April 2025.Fixed-term full-time or part-time work (with on-call) working at least 19 hours and up to maximum 76 hours per fortnight commencing from April 2025 for up to three years.Fixed-term casual work, working as and when required commencing as soon as possible for up to three years.Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.
