Chair, State Fire Management Council (SFMC)
The Tasmanian Government is seeking applications from persons interested in the role of Chair, State Fire Management Council; with appointments to be made in February 2025.
The Fire Service Act 1979 (the Act) outlines the functions of the SFMC, which include the development of a state vegetation fire management policy to be used as the basis for all fire management planning in Tasmania; the provision of advice to the Minister as well as to the State Fire Commission on matters relating to the prevention and extinguishment of vegetation fires.
Council membership is specified under Section 14 of the Act, and includes a person nominated by the Minister to perform the role of Chair.
About The Organisation
The SFMC is an independently chaired body, established under section 14 of the Act, and its mission is to enhance the efficient management of bushfire related risk in Tasmania in order to protect life, property, and significant community values.
Selection Criteria
Submissions are encouraged from appropriately qualified persons who:
1. reside in Tasmania,
2. have demonstrated skills, knowledge, or experience in the fields of fire, vegetation and land management,
3. have highly developed and extensive networks,
4. have demonstrated experience in leadership and governance with an understanding of the machinery of government.
