The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is an independent statutory authority responsible for preparing and conducting criminal prosecutions in Victoria on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Matters prosecuted by the DPP and the OPP involve serious crimes or matters that are of significance to the fair and effective operation of the Victorian criminal justice system. The OPP consists of the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions and a staff of approximately 475 providing legal and corporate support to the DPP, the Chief Crown Prosecutor, and Crown Prosecutors in the exercise of their independent roles in the criminal justice system.

The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced solicitor to join our Geelong team as a Senior Solicitor!
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing large matters in the County and Supreme Courts. They will also be responsible for preparing matters at a committal stage and have the opportunity to undertake highly complex matters with guidance.
The position is based in Geelong, which is located centrally at 60/62 Brougham Street, Geelong. The role involves regional travel to instruct in County and Supreme Court circuits within regional Victoria. A vehicle and overnight accommodation are provided as required.
About the Role:
As a Senior Solicitor you will:
* Prepare and instruct in large matters, including taskforce investigations and trials, appearing when required.
* Undertake high-level research and analysis of large and complex legal issues, providing written and verbal advice to internal and external stakeholders.
* Assist in formal and informal mentoring of junior staff members.
As our ideal candidate you will have:
* A demonstrated ability to prepare large and complex prosecutions with minimal supervision.
* An extensive knowledge of Criminal Law and Procedure as well as the Law of Evidence and other relevant legislation.
* High level interpersonal skills, being able to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders internally and across the community.
