The Combat Systems Integration Engineer is responsible for working within, and supporting the objectives of, the Combat Systems Integration division of Navantia Australia’s Naval Design and Engineering Centre. The position will support the delivery of combat systems integration projects and tasks for RAN ships. Responsibility includes the provision of engineering services, technical advice, investigations, and solution development for the platform integration elements of the following (where applicable):
1. Combat Management Systems and Sensors (e.g. Radars and surveillance systems, Tactical Data Links)
2. Weapons and Sensor Systems (e.g. missile and gun systems, countermeasures, fire control systems, etc.)
3. Communications Systems and Sensors (e.g. terrestrial and satellite radio systems, Intercom, telephone and switching systems, IP networks and LANs, etc.)
4. Navigation Systems and Sensors (e.g. ECDIS, Navigation Radars, Inertial Navigation and gyroscopes, etc.)
5. Entertainment and Training Systems (e.g. Internet at Sea, Satellite TV, Entertainment systems and distribution, etc.)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide high level of engineering technical competence based on relevant experience and knowledge.
2. Support combat system integration design activities for naval ship systems, applying robust systems engineering processes.
3. Undertake technical investigations, root cause analysis and solution identification.
4. Undertake platform integration (including consideration of whole-of-ship and compartment integration, cabling, HVAC, electrical, weight, etc.) of combat systems to the ship platform systems.
5. Deliver technical reports and technical documentation in accordance with established Navantia and customer standards.
6. Work effectively within the Combat Systems Integration division at the Navantia Design and Engineering Centre.
7. Work effectively within the broader Navantia Engineering Team to engage with different engineering disciplines in the development of new naval ship system designs.
8. Support assigned engineering projects from concept through to delivery.
9. Support and attend design coordination meetings with engineering project stakeholders.
10. Support and attend Design Review meetings with the Client.
11. Support the integrity and maintenance of Navantia’s engineering design tools, baselines, and engineering drawings.
QUALIFICATIONS AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Experience:
1. Bachelor’s Degree - Engineering (Electrical / Electronics / Computer Systems or related discipline).
2. Minimum 2 years’ experience as a professional engineer.
3. Experience in a technical and industrial Defence environment.
4. Demonstrated understanding of relevant combat system and communications systems and technology.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
1. Bachelor of Engineering
COMPETENCIES
Technical:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of combat systems related systems and technology.
2. Ability to read and understand electrical single line drawings and cable block diagrams.
3. High level of skill in Standard Computing Packages (MS Office, etc.)
4. Ability to understand and apply relevant Australian Standards, Classification Society and IMO requirements.
5. Capacity to provide technical assessment based on engineering calculations.
6. Broad understanding of Electromagnetic theory.
7. Broad understanding of Communications and sensor systems theory, principles and protocols.
8. Desirable - Experience in a Defence related industry.
9. Desirable - Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) packages (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.)

Security:
1. Ability to gain NV1 as a minimum.
2. The employee must also take care of the ongoing management of their security clearance (at level) with the assistance of their Security Officer.
3. Any change of circumstances that will affect the clearance holder must be immediately reported to AGSVA via form SVA003 (Change of Circumstances Notification form).
4. The employee must adhere to all ongoing security requirements by Navantia Australia and the Commonwealth of Australia (Defence).
