About our department:
As a Specialist Psychiatrist, based in Newcastle or surroundings, you will provide clinical leadership to well established multidisciplinary teams. You will work alongside other Consultants, registrars, prevocational doctors, career medical officers, medical students, nurses, psychologists, occupational health workers, social workers, peer workers and allied health professionals with clear governance and supportive systems. You will be part of a peer group and provide supervision for junior medical staff.
We have extensive experience supporting International Medical Graduates (IMG) at all levels including Specialists through the RANZCP, medical regulatory authorities, visa and relocation processes. We have a substantial IMG workforce who end up settling in the region taking up permanent positions due to the supports and attractive lifestyle. We have approved Substantial Comparability Pathway supervisor and assessors and RANZCP examiners in the service.
The Hunter New England Mental Health Service provides care and treatment to patients within the Hunter New England Local Health District. The district covers a region of 131,785 square kilometers, the size of England! It spans from coastal to regional and rural areas. This includes Greater Newcastle metropolitan areas, Hunter Valley, Manning and New England region. The mental health service operates from 8 inpatient sites with 328 beds and more than 20 community based sites across the district. The mental health service employs around 1600 healthcare staff which includes more than 150 medical staff and 13 Clinical Directors, locality and specialty based directors. Services provided include adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, old age psychiatry, liaison and emergency psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, psychotherapy, eating disorder, substance misuse and neuropsychiatry. Some requirements of the role:
4. A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways
5. Demonstrated by recent and comprehensive experience in Psychiatry as a Consultant
6. You will participate in the on call psychiatrist roster for after-hours telephone advice
7. Provide high quality and compassionate care directly to patients, families and carers
8. Provide clinical leadership and supervision to multidisciplinary teams
9. Provide support, advice, teaching and direction to junior medical staff undergoing professional training at different levels, Nurse Practitioners, medical students and other health professionals as required
