Taronga Zoo is looking for an experienced, driven and motivated Behavioural Husbandry Supervisor who will be joining a leading organisation in conservation, education, animal management and transformational guest experiences.
About the Role…
The Behavioural Husbandry Supervisor is responsible for overseeing Taronga’s wildlife behaviour management program. The position is responsible for the delivery of training and enrichment programs within Wildlife Operations at Taronga Zoo Sydney and Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo. The position provides support and leadership to the Wildlife Operations team through training, consultation, support and mentorship of wildlife Keepers.
Key Accountabilities…
4. Coordinate and supervise Taronga’s behavioural husbandry programs (Training and Conditioning) in line with Taronga’s Strategic and Wildlife Operations goals.
5. Develop and implement environmental enrichment programs for Taronga’s wildlife in collaboration with key stakeholders e.g. Managers, Veterinarians, Nutritionist, Keepers, Behavioural Biologist.
6. Support and ensure continual improvement in relevant policies, practices and commitments including behaviour biology, behavioural husbandry and animal welfare.
7. Provide advice and guidance on the design of exhibits to ensure that behavioural husbandry is factored into and prioritised in natural habitats.
8. Assist with managing the priorities for Taronga’s enrichment volunteers
9. Develop and deliver training sessions and workshops for Wildlife Keepers to build capacity and understanding in the areas of animal behaviour, enrichment techniques and behaviour management strategies, including mentoring Keepers to ensure continuous improvement in this area.
About You…
We are looking for candidates that have:
10. NSW C Class Drivers Licence (or ability to transfer current unrestricted licence)
11. TB Screening
12. Vaccinations against Zoonotic disease (in accordance with Taronga's Zoonotic disease vaccination matrix)
13. Certificate III in Captive Animals or equivalent
14. Exotic animal husbandry related experience
15. NSW Working with Children Check
