This machinist will help produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine. They will maintain quality and safety standards, keep records, and maintain equipment and supplies.RESPONSIBILITIESPlan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters. Interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).Plan stock inventory by checking stock to determine the amount available, anticipating needed stock, placing and expediting orders for stock, and verifying receipt of stock.Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning and facing, taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, adjusting and reprogramming controls, sharpening and replacing worn tools, and adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.Maintain equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs.Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.Document actions by completing production and quality logs.Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.Adhere to safety and other policies and procedures.Perform preventative maintenance tasks.Interpret product drawings.Participate in relevant training in the use of specific items of plant and equipment.SKILLS & ATTRIBUTESESSENTIAL - Cert III in Engineering (Mechanical Trade or Fitter & Turner) or similar.Desired understanding and familiarity with Mastercam software.Minimum 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly desired.Must have conceptual skills.A passion for delivering outstanding customer service.High level of accuracy & attention to detail.Understanding of controls and instrumentation.Proactive & motivated individual with the ability to work well in team environments.Safety-conscious behaviour.Excellent communication skills.Good physical fitness.ABOUT WEST COAST SHEET METALWest Coast Sheet Metal is part of the Stratco group, a dynamic national leader in the manufacture and marketing of building and home improvement products.
