The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is a non-Government Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of community programs and has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.SWAMS’ Social and Emotional Wellbeing team places a strong focus on a person-centred approach and a collaborative working culture to achieve the best possible outcomes for our mob. We are seeking a passionate Counsellor with a high level of skill to join our SEWB team.The Counsellor’s role is to provide a culturally safe space, where people can come and feel they are treated with dignity and respect. Part of the counsellor’s role may also include some group facilitation delivery. As SWAMS deliver counselling support around Mental Health, Alcohol and other drug issues and disability’s, having knowledge across many domains is desired. The successful candidate will be required to provide a level of case management when required, this will include a willingness to work collaboratively across organisations. Good computer skills are required for electronic case file writing and other data entry. The role of counsellor will also include supporting other activities the team are involved in, such as health promotion initiatives and events.Please find below the selection criteria:Essential Criteria
Hold a tertiary qualification in Counselling, Social Work, or Psychology or a similar field
Well developed counselling skills
Have an integrated understanding of the historical context of Aboriginal people
Demonstrated ability to manage risk.
Ability to time manage counselling caseload
Willingness to complete all required data collection relevant to the position.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Sound interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships within a multidisciplinary environment.
Current Working with Children Check, or the ability to obtain.
Current WA Driver’s Licence.
Current National Police Certificate, or the ability to obtain.
