Senior Public Health Nutritionist/Senior Public Health OfficerExciting opportunity to work on and provide high-level public health nutrition advice to support policy change in state and national food regulation. Provide high-level advice on public health nutrition and prevention strategies, focusing on Queenslanders at higher risk of chronic diseases in the future. Join our dynamic and high-performing team in this temporary, full-time role until 31 August 2025.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide high-level nutrition advice and recommendations to senior management to contribute to and influence policy change in the food regulation system.Identify, analyse and convey complex nutrition information in an accessible manner to senior management and a range of stakeholders in relation to nutrition-focused public health policy and reform.Prepare and provide high-level advice in the application of evidence, theory and judgement in planning, implementing and evaluating preventive health policy and interventions in a range of settings and for priority population groups.Demonstrate high-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work as part of a high-performing team, communicate confidently and persuasively to a range of internal and external audiences, and undertake effective negotiation and consultation processes.Demonstrate an understanding of the public sector landscape and policy development and how to use established government processes to effect change.Effectively represent the Branch and the Department on key committees and at relevant regional and state forums as required.The Successful PersonThe successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree in Human Nutrition Science and/or Dietetics or Public Health. Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to the commencement of duties.
Essential RequirementsDemonstrated high-level ability to provide expert nutrition advice and input to senior management to drive change in public health nutrition policy and reform and in the food regulation system.Demonstrated high-level ability to critically analyse information and data and provide evidence-based advice to colleagues, senior management, and other stakeholders on a range of preventive health issues, including for priority population groups.Demonstrated high-level planning and project management skills including experience in the coordination, development, implementation and evaluation of statewide preventive health interventions or initiatives, including for priority population groups.Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to work as part of a high-performing team, communicate confidently and persuasively to a range of internal and external audiences, and undertake effective negotiation and consultation processes.Highly motivated with a demonstrated flexibility in approach to work and the working environment and willingness to participate in initiatives to address priority issues as required by management.About UsThe Department of Health is responsible for the overall management of the public health system in Queensland.
