Job Description:
Salary: $73,150 plus superannuation
Qualifications & Experience:
AQF Certificate III plus 2 years of experience or
At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed.
Task and Duties include (but not limited to)
Analysing fabrication drawings, and specifications to identify job requirements.
Understanding of welding symbols, weld joint configurations, weld preparations, welding processes and techniques.
Understanding and ability to carry out weld Procedure Qualification test pieces and follow Weld Procedure Specifications.
Understanding of English and ability to follow instructions from welding / fabrication supervisor.
Ability to understand different welding codes and standards and apply to varied jobs.
Understanding of PPE requirements for welding processes.
Ability to work with leading hands / fabricators.
Understanding of policies and procedures for workplace OHS and quality.
Proficient in welding processes such as MMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW (Tig) desirable but not essential, SAW (can be trained in house).
Ability to apply arc air gouging techniques for material removal of welds for weld repair.
Selecting, cleaning, and preparing metal materials
Cutting marked metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches, and metal cutting machines
Shaping and bending metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, as well as heating and hammering
aAligning components to be joined using hand tools and measuring devices
Joining metal sections through various welding methods.
Inspecting welds for bead width, fillet weld size, penetration, accuracy, weld toe finish.
Understanding and ability to identify non-complying welds and imperfections that require rectification. Eg. Over roll, undercut, cracking, slag inclusions, excessive protrusion, excessive weld reinforcement (capping), porosity, blending of stop starts, weld spatter, gouging of parent metal.
Finishing products by cleaning, polishing, filing, and soaking in acidic solutions
Cleaning and smoothing welds through filing, use of needle gun, grinding, linishing.
