Employment Type : Permanent Full Time Position Classification : Staff Specialist Hours Per Week : 40 Requisition ID : REQ531955 The Department of Maternal Fetal Medicine/Obstetrics at The Royal Hospital for Women (RHW) is pleased to announce our opening for a Subspecialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) with a particular interest in the management of both uncomplicated and complicated twin pregnancies, and laser for twin to twin transfusion to join the department of Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM). We are particularly interested in speaking to junior subspecialists or those who are currently, or soon to be completing, their certification in maternal fetal medicine. The RHW established a Multiple Pregnancy Clinic in 2009 and it is expected that the successful applicant will take over the Multiple Pregnancy Clinic. The NSW Fetal Therapy unit is based at the Royal Hospital for Women and is where most of the lasers for twin-to-twin transfusion are undertaken in NSW. It is expected that the applicant will have experience in laser for twin-to-twin transfusion and will participate in the on-call roster for this service. The MFM unit has a close relationship with associated specialties including obstetric medicine, genetics, neonatology, fetal cardiology, perinatal pathology, and paediatric surgery, making this an ideal working environment for good clinical care. There are co-located children’s (Sydney Children’s Hospital) and adult hospitals (Prince of Wales Hospital) on the campus. It is expected that the successful candidate will have a strong history of working in a multidisciplinary collaborative team, as well as experience in ultrasound diagnosis of fetal abnormalities, diagnostic procedures such as CVS/amniocentesis and other fetal procedures and be willing and interested in caring for women with perinatal mortality/pregnancy loss. The Department of Maternal Fetal Medicine comprises 5 part time MFM subspecialists, 1.8 full-time equivalent genetic counsellor, 2 part time geneticists, two full time midwives and a maternal fetal medicine midwifery group practice. There are two MFM fellows. The department has 2 ultrasound machines and Viewpoint reporting system. There is an active research culture within the department and training of MFM subspecialist fellows. The Royal Hospital for Women has been one of Australia’s foremost specialist hospitals for women and babies, since its early beginnings as New South Wales first lying-in hospital for women in 1820. As a principal teaching hospital of the University of NSW in the fields of obstetrics, gynaecology and neonatology the Royal has a history of innovation in women’s health care services, teaching, and research. The main areas of specialisation include breast care, gynaecology, gynaecological oncology, maternity, maternal fetal medicine, menopause, newborn intensive care, and reproductive medicine. Each year the Hospital delivers more than 3,000 babies; cares for more than 600 premature babies; performs more than 3000 surgical procedures and has over 2000 visits through our Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS). The position will be primarily located at the Royal Hospital for Women but may be varied as agreed. The successful candidate may be eligible for a conjoint appointment to the Prince of Wales Clinical School with the UNSW Faculty of Medicine. The level of the appointment will be determined by qualifications and experience. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position. Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty; experience in caring for women with complicated twin pregnancies. Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital. Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites. Demonstrated commitment to provision of a high standard of clinical care in the public sector setting.
