The Role
Polar Bear of Leura seeks a skilled Chef to oversee kitchen operations and ensure seamless execution.
The ideal candidate will be able to supervise kitchen staff, maintain a clean and organized workspace, and work efficiently under pressure.
Applicants must possess strong communication skills, knowledge of various cuisines, and the ability to handle customer feedback effectively.
Responsibilities
* Plan and direct food preparation, cooking, and presentation for entrees, mains, and desserts, including house-made pastas and traditional pizzas.
* Set up the kitchen with necessary utensils and equipment, ensuring a smooth workflow.
* Work closely with Cooks and other kitchen staff to optimize provisioning and purchasing of supplies.
* Collaborate with the Director to develop menus that are flavorful and popular with customers.
* Supervise and coordinate activities of cooks and food preparation workers, ensuring efficient teamwork.
* Maintain high standards of food quality, quantity, taste, and presentation, adhering to menu specifications and customer preferences.
* Perform food preparation tasks and inspect orders to ensure consistency and proper execution.
* Coordinate kitchen operations to ensure timely delivery of dishes, taking into account meal preferences and dietary restrictions.
* Ensure a clean and hygienic environment for meal preparation and delivery, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization.
* Assist the Director in recruitment activities, including shortlisting, interviewing, and selecting candidates for cook and food preparation positions.
* Stock and maintain adequate levels of food products at line stations, ensuring efficient inventory management.
* Advise on cooking methods and practices, promoting innovation and culinary excellence.
* Support the Director in routine and specific tasks, contributing to the overall success of the kitchen.
* Enforce strict sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness, and maintenance of the kitchen, adhering to health and safety regulations.
Requirements
* AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma, or Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2)
* 3 years of work experience in a commercial kitchen setting
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring quality and efficiency
* Hardworking and positive attitude
* Ability to work within a team and independently, with flexibility to work weekdays, weekends, and nights
* Australian citizenship or permanent residency
