The successful candidate will be an experienced news enthusiast who has an eye for compelling video, is adept at discovering news content via social media, is passionate about verifying news, and has a track record of leading journalists. Part of News Corp, Storyful is a video news agency that discovers, verifies and distributes the best user-generated content online. We cover it all, from eyewitness videos in war zones, to viral moments featuring animals and kids. The APAC editor will lead a team of six journalists and direct the newsroom’s daily coverage, while being a key part in a global operation that supplies some of the world’s biggest newsrooms with trusted news and video. The ideal candidate will be immersed in social communities and conversations, and is an expert in everything from politics to celebrity, breaking news to viral videos. The candidate needs to be obsessed with finding new stories and beating the traditional wires, with a priority always on accuracy and great journalism. You should understand the challenges facing digital and broadcast newsrooms and the solutions that new media can bring. You should be able to work closely with fellow journalists to execute discovery, verification and distribution of social stories across continents, topics and time zones. Responsibilities include: Having an eye for what video content newsrooms need, be it TV or digital operations Oversee the standards, verification, style, tone, approach, balance and quality of Storyful’s news journalism during the Australian timezone with a focus on finding, verifying and acquiring content Manage the Australia-based journalists, including training, staff development and annual performance reviews Manage key relationships within News Corp Australia and other top-level clients Set and oversee the daily news priorities for Australian and international clients Monitor for breaking news and undertake advanced searches to discover emerging content Write and edit clean, concise and accurate copy for publication on all our platforms, including crafting compelling headlines Respond to requests from our clients across the globe Oversee the distribution of daily newsletters Ensure an efficient transition between time zones and editorial shifts Skills and experience required: You should have significant experience as an editor - managing teams, delegating duties, giving direction and feedback, making fast decisions, taking feedback and changing direction A good communicator who has experience writing and editing copy Expert understanding of social media platforms such as X, Facebook, Reddit, Instagram and Telegram Ability to identify, source and verify original content from across the social web Video editing skills are an advantage, but not mandatory Non-English language skills are an advantage, but not mandatory.
