Job Title: Education Books Editor
Taylor & Francis, a leading academic publishing business, is seeking an experienced books commissioning editor to join its Routledge Education list in Melbourne.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the proactive commissioning of books, managing production schedules, and growing the education portfolio in Australia and New Zealand.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Commissioning books to meet annual targets and revenue goals
* Actively seeking out new authors and commissioning professional titles and textbooks
* Working with an Editorial Assistant to ensure timely manuscript submissions and production schedules
* Identifying market needs and recruiting authors to write relevant books
* Evaluating book proposals and soliciting peer reviews
* Proposing suitable projects to the publishing committee
* Collaborating with authors and internal departments to ensure goals are met
Requirements:
* Strong commercial awareness and excellent networking skills
* Experience in academic publishing in an editorial role; book commissioning experience preferred
* Ability to organise and prioritise numerous tasks and work independently
* Excellent team-working skills
* Ability to work diplomatically with demanding stakeholders
* Resourceful and proactive attitude
* Good publishing business awareness and ability to learn quickly
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
* Strong word processing, spreadsheet, and database skills
* Experience travelling independently
