City of Logan has a new, permanent opportunity for a Principal Engineer to join the Development Assessment Branch.
The Principal Traffic Engineer is part of the Development Engineering Delivery Team, providing specialist technical oversight of temporary traffic management associated with the delivery of development across the city of Logan.
Reporting to the Development Engineering Delivery Coordinator, you will provide oversight for two Technical Officers (Traffic Management Designers – TMDs) who review, and issue road closure permits for development related works and conduct associated site inspections of temporary traffic management.
The Development Engineering Delivery team is a high performing, dedicated and practical team that plays an integral part in delivering quality development engineering outcomes that enhance the City of Logan.
This role is a critical strategic role within the Development Branch, with responsibility for managing development impacts to the City’s Road network, balancing the complex and varied needs of the community and elected officials by providing tailored and relevant communication as required.
This position will have access to flexible working arrangements such as working a compressed working week (4-day week, in addition to the standard 9-day fortnight), Hybrid working arrangements and a leaseback vehicle for restricted private use.
Position Responsibilities
* Leading the temporary traffic management operations of the Development Engineering Delivery team
* Applying best practice temporary traffic management approaches to ensure the integrity of Council’s development road closure permit service.
* Proactively identifying and resolving complex temporary traffic management design and implementation issues to mitigate impacts to the City’s Road network
* Providing professional expertise and information to key stakeholders including Council’s executive management and elected officials
* Coordinating effective customer request management relating to road closures to meet internal and external customer expectations.
* Negotiating with varied stakeholders temporary traffic management to facilitate effective development delivery.
* Facilitating professional development of staff to maintain contemporary knowledge and industry affinity
* Applying advanced coaching and mentoring skills and strategies in the supervision of Technical Officers and students
* Building and developing collaborative professional networks with internal and external stakeholders to establish partnerships that progress Council’s vision of a dynamic city of the future
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* Tertiary qualifications in civil engineering or equivalent qualification with eligibility for membership of the Institute of Engineers (RPEQ will be highly regarded)
* Traffic Management Design (TMD) (Open or Restricted) qualification
* Substantive knowledge of, and the ability to interpret and apply, temporary traffic management design documentation including Austroads and DTMR standards and guidelines, Australian Standards, and relevant land use planning legislation, regulations, policies, local laws and standards.
* Demonstrated affinity with the engineering construction and traffic management industry, and the practical implications of development in the local community.
* Skills in the effective leadership of a professional team, including recruitment, induction, training, and performance management.
* Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including the ability to interpret policy and provide concise technical advice in plain speak, negotiating and tailoring your approach with internal and external stakeholders.
