About the role
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with experience in a manufacturing facility to join our Engineering Maintenanceteam in Kooragang Island, NSW on a full-time permanent basis .
Orica Kooragang Island’s manufacturing complex comprises an Ammonia plant, three nitric acid plants, and two ammonium nitrate plants. The site has significant dispatch operations, capable of providing bagged, containerized, or bulk products for distribution.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving work strategies for all assets within their responsible discipline across the Manufacturing Centre that ensures and improves the availability of the Production Cell(s) of the Manufacturing Centre’s Product Line(s) to achieve their objectives across — safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
To deliver these responsibilities, the Mechanical Engineer shall work collaboratively across all Manufacturing Centre departments and across the areas of Work Strategies Management, Defect Elimination, Master Data Management, Conditions Monitoring, Performance Management (KPI’s). #LI-DNI
What you will be doing
More specifically, the Mechanical Engineer will deliver the following within their responsible discipline:
1. Support and execute all initiatives associated with the improvement and maintenance of site assets through the SAP Computerised Maintenance Management System.
2. Direct and strong support with the maintenance technician teams to investigate and resolve equipment issues, replacements and upgrades, and to determine and implement improved practices and methods.
3. Manage all relevant changes to Manufacturing Centre maintenance strategies and master data through a defined Maintenance of Change process and ensure master data meets Orica’s master data standard.
4. Promote understanding and use of reliability tools (e.g. Weibull, FMECA, and RBM) across equipment and plants, as well as work management processes within the defect elimination process, to identify and implement reliability improvements.
5. Deliver day-to-day technical support to the Production team and other departments to ensure maximum plant availability.
6. Promote a continuous improvement and reliability culture with operators, maintainers, and engineering peers.
7. Support and collaborate with on- and off-site teams to troubleshoot plant and equipment issues and develop engineering and system improvements.
8. Develop and support scope development, planning, and execution of plant shutdowns.
The Mechanical Engineer is required to carefully balance the competing priorities of day-to-day support for the product lines and the proactive efforts of plant support and reliability improvements to ensure both immediate production objectives and medium- to long-term improvement objectives are achieved.
What you will bring
9. Role ideally suited to individuals with a minimum experience of 3 years in the petrochemical or chemical manufacturing industry with considerable change management and safety components.
10. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
11. Excellent communication skills to ensure strong & efficient collaboration and to promote a culture of shared success and business improvement.
12. Good technical engineering skills and understanding with emphasis on pressure systems, high-speed turbo machinery, furnaces, pumps, machine guarding, maintenance cost analysis, and reliability improvement techniques.
13. Well-developed Root Cause Analysis (5-Why, Apollo) problem-solving and decision-making skills.
14. Good understanding of maintenance cost analysis and reliability improvement tools and techniques (FMECA, RCM, etc.)
15. Good understanding of the SAP Plant Maintenance module and experience working with SAP Hana (preferred).
16. Ability to obtain a national police clearance check.
