TasPorts is a state-owned company responsible for ten Tasmanian ports and the Devonport Airport.We are a vertically integrated organisation, providing a diverse range of port and marine operations and services around Tasmania.Our vision is to proudly connect people, products and solutions for the benefit of all Tasmanians.With 99% of the State's freight moving through our multi-port system, TasPorts facilitates vital trade to enable industry partners and communities while ensuring the highest environmental and safety standards.The Role We are seeking expressions of interest for a new Marine Pilot position to start as soon as possible from suitably qualified Master Mariners to be trained as a Licensed Marine Pilot preferably located in the Northern/Northwest region of the state.Key Duties Undertake pilotage movements and collate relevant documentation and safety management system administration.Be actively involved with shipping movement systems, port control and shipping communications, navigation services, emergency response/planning, on-water environmental matters and general floating plant services as required.Provide technical advice and support to other marine and shipping services personnel.Assist in the examination of Masters seeking a Pilotage Exemption.Assist in the enforcement of the Marine and Safety (Pilotage and Navigation) Regulations 2007 as detailed in Schedule 2 of the Deed between TasPorts and MAST.Ensure risk assessments, which adequately assess workplace hazards, are undertaken, and report all HSE hazards, incidents and near misses. Duties and Responsibilities Lead safety conversations and briefings with clients and vessel Masters, using collaborative modern and engaging human factor principles.Conduct safe marine pilotage in accordance with all regulatory requirements and in line with industry best practice.Assist with the safe management of vessel movements within the licensed port areas.Manage multiple tugs during berthing operations.Represent the company at industry forums.Drive innovation and continual improvement. What you will have Essential Qualifications Master Unlimited Certificate of Competency recognised by AMSA.Able to meet the minimum requirements as detailed by MAST in the Marine Pilotage code.Ability to obtain and hold a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).Current Australian Driver's Licence.Valid AMSA Medical. Desired Experience and Abilities Previous pilotage experience in a similar port operational environment.Previous ship handling experience relating to vessel types and sizes trading at Hobart.Experience working with ship's bridge teams.A thorough understanding and ability to apply risk management techniques.Ability to analyse problems, formulate suitable solutions, and make rational decisions.Proficient in the use of technology relating to Marine Pilotage.Knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity, Work Health and Safety and cultural diversity principles.Ideally located locally and/or able to commence immediately upon successful appointment.
