Children's Counsellor - Supporting Children after Separation Program

Through our Supporting Children after Separation Program (SCaSP), you’ll make a difference in the lives of young people by offering compassionate counselling, age-appropriate education, and skills training that empower them to strengthen family connections and make decisions that positively impact their lives.
The key objectives of this role are:
* Provide counselling and support for children and young people under 18 experiencing family relationship challenges due to separation, using tailored, age-appropriate interventions.
* Facilitate the Supporting Children after Separation Program (SCaSP) by offering guidance, education, and skills training that help children and young people manage family dynamics and participate in decision-making.
* Conduct thorough intakes and assessments to ensure children’s best interests are prioritized, while providing parents with feedback on the impact of family changes.
* Build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance service access, increase support options, and ensure a cohesive approach to therapeutic care.

About You
To be successful in the role, you will have:
* A tertiary qualification in counselling, psychology, social work or related human services or behavioural sciences.
* A minimum of two years’ experience in the provision of counselling, play therapy, or consultations for children, young people, and their families.
* Comprehensive knowledge of child development, trauma theory, attachment theory, grief and loss, and issues of a complex nature such as family violence that may impact upon a child/young person’s development.
* An understanding of evidence based therapeutic approaches to counselling and commitment to best practice with a demonstrated ability to provide comprehensive assessments and counselling interventions.
* Knowledge of the broader client services system, legislation, support services and organisations.
* Demonstrated commitment to service integration and service collaboration for better service user outcomes.
