About the Role This role will support the WAAP portfolio from Studies (Development) through to Execution (Delivery). These projects cover a full range of assets and locations across the BHP Western Australian Iron Ore (WAIO) mining and non-mining operations.
Particular focus of this role will be in relation to providing Civil Engineering technical input and overview, taking projects from Studies (Development) through to Execution (Delivery). Technical aspects of these projects include civil earthworks design, surface water hydrology, stormwater management, hydrogeology, and geotechnical investigations.
This is a Perth-based role with intermittent travel to site for short periods, when required.
The Discipline Engineer is a core member of the project Owners Team working closely with the Project Engineer(s), Technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and Engineering/Technical Service Providers (ESPs) to support the Study Lead/Manager who has overall project accountability during the Study Phases (Development) and the Delivery Lead/Manager during the Execution Phase (Delivery).
Reporting to Area Lead Engineering (Water Infrastructure), your accountabilities include:
Having knowledge of relevant:BHP standards Australia Standards Regulations Providing input to:Basis of Design (BoD) Scope(s) of Work (SoW) Engineering Management Plan Tender submission reviews Responses to Technical Queries (TQs) and Requests for Information (RFIs) Sustainability in Design activity described in SEP-90 and SAF-76 Value Optimisation The capture of lessons learned Reviewing the pre-determined critical technical deliverables from ESPs, including (but not limited to):Drawings Specifications Models Calculations Identifying issues and suggesting solutions/improvements related to:Design performance Design quality Constructability Operability Maintainability Providing leadership regarding Engineering Effectiveness by identifying and driving Engineering Scope Optimisation (ESO) and Value Engineering (VE) opportunities. The Principal Discipline Engineer will add value to the projects that they are involved in by (where necessary) challenging BHP standards, Australian Standards, and User Requirements. Managing their overall workload:Ensuring their reviews are prioritised to be consistent with the priorities of multiple projects. Seeking or providing assistance as their workload fluctuates. Collaborating with Commissioning and Construction to ensure that engineering is developed to be able to support commissioning and construction methodologies, strategies, and systems. Supporting Operational Readiness by providing engineering-related data in order to enable the effective transition to Operations. About You As a successful candidate you will possess the following:
Demonstrated relevant Civil Engineering experience in projects. Knowledge and experience in the application of the principles of or related to: Civil earthworks Surface water hydrology Hydrogeology Geotechnical investigations Strong Technical Management experience. Experience working with or managing Engineering Service Providers and deliverable development. Civil / Environmental Engineer or similar discipline.
