The opportunity:
The Orthopaedics Research Group (ORG) wishes to appoint an Orthopaedic Project Assistant to be a part of the dedicated research team supporting the ORG research streams. The role will provide generalist administrative research support to all streams of research and will be managed by the ORG clinical research coordinator. The Project Assistant will undertake data collection, data entry and data management to support research projects and registries. They will be employed under MCRI, however, will also work within the RCH Orthopaedic clinical department that includes surgeons, nurse specialists and physiotherapists. Interacting and engaging with patients and families will be an important component of the role to help foster a sense of belonging to something bigger and help develop a culture of inquisitiveness and trust.
Your new team:
The Orthopaedics Research Group (ORG) is nested in the surgical research theme within the clinical sciences department of the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI). The new group has an organised framework of research streams (including hip, spine, limb reconstruction, gait, upper limb and sarcoma) overseen by the Orthopaedic research leads and coordinated by the orthopaedic Clinical Research Coordinator. The group is funded by the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation and contains a dedicated research team providing support and expertise in data collection, data sharing, integration, and consumer engagement. A research advisory committee provides overall governance and direction to the research group and streams. The ORG's mission is to establish a comprehensive research strategy and infrastructure that integrates and improves orthopaedic care for children across Victoria and internationally. Research priorities are focused on improving outcomes and experiences for children, young people and their families.
Your responsibilities include:
4. Working closely with Clinical Research Coordinator to support the stream research teams
5. Undertaking a range of administrative functions in support of the Group’s various project objectives which includes event and stakeholder relationship coordination, meeting minutes and agendas
6. Undertaking participant recruitment, data collection for stream registries and research projects
7. Supporting research streams to conduct ethical research at the highest level of integrity and in line with the Australian Code for Responsible Conduct of Research and MCRI policies
8. Assisting with data entry and REDCap database management
What we need from you:
9. Qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Science or related discipline)
10. Appropriate level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training or professional accreditation
11. Computer skills, including excel spreadsheets, database programs, patient management platforms and statistics
12. Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Adobe PDF
13. Demonstrated high attention to detail and accuracy of data in collation, communications and reporting
14. Experience with platforms such as REDCap and EPIC EMR will be highly valued
