The Royal Hobart Hospital and Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking interest from suitably qualified and experienced applicants for a Staff Specialist – Orthopaedic Surgeon vacancy.

The RHH Department of Orthopaedic Surgery offers services in the major Orthopaedic sub-specialty areas (with the exception of spinal surgery) and there would be regular opportunities for exposure to those areas of interest to the successful candidate. Depending upon the qualifications and interest of the incumbent, there may also be the opportunity to be involved with other teaching and research activities.
This role has been established to fulfil several targeted activities aimed to improve the delivery of timely surgical services to trauma patients and assist in the coordination and training of surgical Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) and Registrars. It is ideally suited to a surgeon who has recently been awarded Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery or will do so prior to the commencement of employment.
The Orthopaedic General and Trauma Surgery Fellow will be a member of Surgical Services, and the role will involve a mix of four key objectives:
* the undertaking of approved Orthopaedic surgical in-patient and out-patient services,
* participation in Consultant after-hours rosters,
* provision of leadership and mentoring for junior staff including surgical RMOs and registrars,
* assisting with quality improvement, audit and service improvement within Surgical Services.

Details of Appointment
Fixed term full-time day work (with on-call), working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 1 February 2026.
Minimum Requirements:
* Holds specialist registration
* Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway
* Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.
* Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Orthopaedic Surgery (or eligibility for Fellowship prior to the commencement of the role).
