Primary objective As part of a high performing Chief Minister and Cabinet shared services team, provide high quality services and advice on financial, accounting and taxation matters to ensure the accuracy, performance and effectiveness of the agency meeting compliance and government frameworks. Chief Minister and Cabinet shared services team provides financial services for the Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet and Department of Treasury and Finance. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Provide high quality finance, accounting, and taxation services in compliance with relevant legislation, policy, and government frameworks. 2. Perform reconciliations, prepare and process adjusting journals for the agency including end of month and end of year journals, and other financial tasks as required. 3. Assist in development and implementation of accounting policies to ensure agencies operate within relevant legislation and the Government’s financial management framework. 4. Assist Manager Finance in preparing the agency’s reporting including but not limited to financial statements, estimate’s briefs and Treasury and Commonwealth reporting. Selection criteria Essential 1. Demonstrated experience in accrual accounting, preparation of financial reports, including journals processing, reconciliations, collation, and presentation of financial data. 2. Demonstrated experience in undertaking complex financial analysis, compliance, and provision of financial advice. 3. Demonstrated sound knowledge of Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) and Good and Services Tax (GST) legislations and their application in a complex environment. 4. Highly developed written, oral, and interpersonal skills and the ability to consult, collaborate and negotiate effectively and strategically with internal and external stakeholders. 5. Demonstrated ability to provide a professional client focused service, regarding financial implications to a range of clients. 6. Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise workload to ensure deadlines are met. 7. Demonstrated attention to detail with a focus on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of financial reporting and provision of advice. 8. Demonstrated flexibility and ability to perform in a changing environment. 9. Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures. Desirable 1. Detailed knowledge of the accounting systems, the Northern Territory Government financial management framework including the Financial Management Act and other relevant legislation. 2. High levels of competency in spreadsheets, financial databases, and general Microsoft Office applications. 3. Bachelor of Accounting (or equivalent) and accreditation with a professional accounting body.
