Associate Director, Software Engineering As an Associate Director of Software Engineering, you'll lead a team of engineers and people leaders, shaping the engineering vision and aligning strategies with business goals. You'll ensure solutions meet best practices, oversee recruitment and development, and drive a culture of continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making. Excel in Agile methodologies and effective communication to guide stakeholders and teams towards success. Responsibilities: Lead and support chapter members across Agile Tribes and Squads, fostering a positive and collaborative environment. Establish and uphold engineering standards, practices, and governance processes to ensure high-quality outcomes. Build strong relationships with Tribes and stakeholders, using strategic thinking and empathy to guide teams toward well-engineered solutions. Facilitate career growth, provide mentoring, and oversee performance reviews, ensuring chapter members have opportunities for continuous learning and development. Drive technical leadership and coordinate chapter skills with Product Owners to maintain business continuity and deliver optimal solutions. Foster a culture of innovation and creativity, promoting alignment with Optus' values and ensuring a diverse and inclusive environment. Experience: Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, or equivalent formal training or work experience. Extensive industry experience with a proven track record in leadership roles, showcasing strong leadership and team management abilities. Hands-on experience with web and integration languages, tools, and approaches, with knowledge of AEM, SFCC, Lux React, Mulesoft, and a solid understanding of Dev Ops practices, tools, and cloud technologies. Deep understanding of IT risk, information security fundamentals, defense-in-depth practices, and risk management, ensuring solutions are secure and compliant. Strong skills in managing vendors and contracts, with the ability to drive optimal outcomes through effective negotiation and stakeholder management. Proven competence in Agile methodologies, acting as an Agile ambassador to drive cultural change and foster a customer-focused environment. Excellent communication skills, with experience in frequent communication with C-level executives and middle managers, ensuring alignment and clarity across teams. 3 days in the office, 2 days remote – with flexible hours to suit!
