Elementary Music Teacher (Grades 3-6) for the 2025-2026 School Year
Job Overview:
The Elementary Music Teacher is responsible for providing comprehensive music education to students in grades 3-6. This role focuses on developing students' musical abilities, creativity, and appreciation for music through engaging lessons that include singing, instrumental practice, rhythm exercises, and music theory. The teacher will also be responsible for organizing and leading two major music showcase events each year to demonstrate students' progress and achievements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Instructional Responsibilities:
o Develop and implement a dynamic and engaging music curriculum for students in grades 3-6.
o Teach basic music theory, rhythm, melody, harmony, and instrumental skills.
o Facilitate group singing, music appreciation, and listening activities.
o Introduce students to a variety of music genres, cultures, and historical contexts.
o Create individualized and group lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and musical interests.
o Foster students’ creativity and expression through performance and composition.
* Performance and Showcase:
o Plan, rehearse, and lead two annual music showcase events (one in each semester) that highlight student progress.
o Coordinate with other faculty members to integrate music into school-wide events as needed.
o Ensure that all students are well-prepared for performances through consistent practice and rehearsals.
o Manage all logistical aspects of showcase events, including staging, set-up, costumes, and communication with parents.
o Communicate with parents and the school community about performance details and attendance expectations.
* Classroom Management:
o Establish and maintain a positive, productive, and respectful classroom environment.
o Promote collaboration, teamwork, and self-confidence among students.
o Manage student behavior in a way that is consistent with school policies and encourages a love of music.
* Assessment and Reporting:
o Regularly assess student progress and provide constructive feedback on both musical skills and personal growth.
o Maintain records of student performance, participation, and improvement.
o Provide reports and updates to parents, school leadership, and other stakeholders as needed.
o Adapt teaching strategies and materials to meet the evolving needs of students.
* Collaboration:
o Work collaboratively with other school staff, including classroom teachers, administrators, and other specialists.
o Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and knowledge of music education.
o Engage with parents and the wider community to support student learning and encourage participation in music-related events.
* Additional Responsibilities:
o Attend school meetings, faculty events, and other duties as assigned by school leadership.
o Encourage student involvement in extracurricular music activities such as clubs or auditions, when applicable.
Qualifications:
* Properly endorsed Oregon Teaching License with a Music endorsement (preferred), authorized for grades K-6.
* Previous experience teaching music at the elementary level, particularly with grades 3-6.
* Proficiency in music theory, vocal performance, and at least one instrument (piano, guitar, or others).
* Strong organizational skills, including the ability to plan and execute large-scale events.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* A passion for fostering students' musical development and creativity.
Working Conditions:
* This is a full-time position during the school year, with occasional evening hours for showcase events.
* The position is based at the school, with some flexibility for planning and preparation time.
Length of Contract: school year
