The key duties of the position include The Role As an Engineering Professional, you will provide detailed engineering, technical, professional and policy advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program, project management and policy development. The duties of an APS 6 Engineer Professional - Communications occupation in Defence include the following: Perform critical and complex engineering activities and provide advice in the field of communication engineering under broad direction. Accountable for exercising assigned engineering authorities and any Technical Regulatory Authority delegations. Apply engineering knowledge and experience to identify risks and uncertainties and take these into account in planning, decision making and priority setting. Demonstrate communication engineering knowledge and provide advice and recommendations on the development of advancements to established engineering principles, techniques, methods and regulations. Build and sustain positive relationships with team members, actively participate in team work and motivate and mentor developing engineers. Tailor communication style and language to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Assess technical and design packages including scoping, planning, reviewing, provide recommendations and contribute to the implementation of actions. Evaluate that the delivered materiel meets requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks, provide recommendations and contribute to the implementation of actions. Monitor and ensure safety aspects of Defence materiel systems are considered and incorporated into communication engineering activities. Manage workflows, resources, prepare work area and team plans detailing measurable milestones and expected outcomes. You will be responsible for: Leading engineering activities within Transitions, Retransmission, Ancillaries, Intercomms and Legacy Systems (TRAILS) Fleet one of the main product lines in CA31 - Battlespace Communications Systems (CA31 - BCS) a part of Land Communications & Specialist Systems, Systems Program Office (LCSS SPO) Apply engineering knowledge and experience to prioritise work within the team as directed by TRAILS Sustainment Manager and in conjunction with CA31 Systems Engineering Manager. Supervise and mentor junior Communications and Graduate Engineers within TRAILS E&T team Maintain strong functioning partnerships between CA31 team and various defence platforms, SPOs, and stakeholders such as (LAND200-2, LAND400-2, LAND129, CA54, LAND121 Ph4, ATS, LNIC and AHQ). Liaise with industry partners such as Thales, L3Harris, Eylex, DEFCON Technologies, and Motorola and many more. The Successful candidate must be able to demonstrate: Strong knowledge of deployable data and voice communication systems. Strong knowledge of Systems Engineering principles and processes. Experience in development of documentation showing equipment is Safe and Fit for Purpose (known as Safety Cases and Technical Certification Reports and packages). An understanding and experience of the Capability Life Cycle (CLC). This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP).
