Mackay Regional Council is seeking a skilled individual to contribute to the design delivery of essential infrastructure, ranging from roads and drainage to sewer, water systems, parks, and open spaces and urban built form.
About this opportunity:
As a key player in our design team, you will carry out detailed civil engineering design and drafting, provide innovative, sustainable and cost-effective solutions, and ensure all projects align with Council policies and objectives.
You'll be working across a broad spectrum of asset classes, supporting vital infrastructure for our growing community.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare conceptual and detailed design solutions using AutoCAD and 12D Model software for a variety of infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with the Design Services program.
Develop cost-efficient, innovative design solutions in line with engineering standards and best practice requirements.
Interpret civil design requirements through liaison with State Government departments, service provider authorities and third-party stakeholders to minimise design issues conflicts, advise of Council's design requirements, and achieve appropriate solutions.
Provide guidance in design and drafting practice to design team members and assist in developing continual business improvement initiatives.
Interact with internal stakeholders regarding project needs ensuring that expert and quality service is delivered.
Produce supporting design documents including design drawings, specifications, schedules and estimate of cost to enable preparation of construction tender contract documents.
Contribute to providing an environment and culture that ensures workplace health and safety, industrial health and hygiene, psychological safety, and wellbeing, for all people within the workplace.
Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
Qualifications in Engineering: Associate Degree (preferred), or equivalent with extensive relevant experience; OR Associate Diploma with extensive skills and relevant experience; OR Lesser formal qualifications combined with considerable skills and extensive relevant experience.
Current QLD "C" Class Driver's Licence General Construction Safety "White" Card, or ability to obtain Proven proficiency in AutoCAD, 12D Model, and Microsoft Office, including project management tools.
Practical experience in the design, drafting, estimating and project documentation preparation for civil engineering infrastructure, preferably on behalf of, or within a Local Government environment.

Strong communication skills for effectively engaging with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Strong ability to think critically, laterally, analyse data and provide recommendations.
Well-developed ability to deal with difficult situations, clearly articulate issues, negotiate outcomes and resolve problems, with an attitude to take personal responsibility for promptly handling and resolving workplace tasks.
Demonstrated commitment to promoting workplace health, safety, and wellbeing, including psychological safety for all employees.
