The current site, in Pioneer Street, was established in 1965. It is situated in a rural environment located 30 kilometres from Wilson¿s Promontory National Park. The enrolment varies between 180-200 with a growing number of families moving into the school catchment area. The majority of students, however, come directly from the Foster Kindergarten and move on to South Gippsland Secondary School in Year 7. Students come from a wide area of the district, served by nine buses. Most parents are working parents and are based locally in farming, service, professional or tourism services. The school is equipped with a variety of permanent classrooms, operating 8 grades, the majority of which are composites. There are eight classroom teachers, three specialist teachers, a Primary Welfare officer, together with six Educational Support staff. Government and School Council funds have been used to refurbish and rebuild facilities to support modern teaching methods and flexible learning areas. Our students are given opportunities to participate in a variety of extra curricula activities and programs such as Camps, Excursions, Incursions and Interschool Sports. The school has updated its ICT resources, having a mix of desktops, laptops, netbooks & iPads. The computer ratio for students is 1:1. All staff have laptop computers/iPads. English and Mathematics remain central to the curriculum, underpinned by an emphasis on Learning to Learn (Guy Claxton). The school offers a range of specialist classes which appeal to different learning styles and organises incursions which address areas such as drama, science, writing, music or performance skills. Sport, Music, Dance and Drama are popular in the wider school community and students are encouraged to participate both in and out of school hours. Program Benefits - Graduates This position may attract an incentive payment of $5,650 (pre-tax) for the successful candidate who meets the eligibility criteria set out under conditions of employment Role - Graduates The primary focus of the range 1 classroom teacher is on further developing skills and competencies to become an effective classroom practitioner with structured support and guidance from teachers at higher levels and the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes. These teachers teach a range of students/classes and are accountable for the effective delivery of their programs. Range 1 classroom teachers are skilled teachers who operate under general direction within clear guidelines following established work practices and documented priorities and may have responsibility for the supervision and training of one or more student teachers. At range 1, teachers participate in the development of school policies and programs and assist in the implementation of school priorities. The focus of a range 1 classroom teacher is on classroom management, subject content and teaching practice. New entrants to the teaching profession in their initial teaching years receive structured support, mentoring and guidance from teachers at higher levels. Under guidance, new entrants to the teaching profession will plan and teach student groups in one or more subjects and are expected to participate in induction programs and other professional learning activities that are designed to ensure the integration of curriculum, assessment and pedagogy across the school. Teachers at range 1 are responsible for teaching their own classes and may also assist and participate in policy development, project teams and the organisation of co-curricula activities.
