The Grid Controls Planning Engineer's job is all about checking how well generators (both synchronous and non-synchronous) connect or get modified. They figure out the settings for network control systems and specify the network equipment needed. The goal is to make sure everything meets the technical requirements and quality standards set by the National Electricity Rules
* Collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams to provide technical and analytical capability to projects/investigations.
* Model and simulate power system behaviour using steady state, dynamic and transient stability, harmonic, unbalance and electromagnetic transient methodologies.
* Understand network capability and performance of plant and propose solutions based on this analysis.
* Investigate the integration of renewable energy and impact that the changing mix of generation has on network performance and power system security.
* Determine control systems settings for dynamic transmission plant, including commissioning, compliance assessment and model validation, to ensure power system performance, stability and quality of supply.
* Develop, validate and maintain analysis methodology and tools, models for dynamic plant and generating systems to ensure quality analysis outcomes.

As a member of our Power System Performance & Connections team, based in our Virginia offices, you'll be at the heart of our grid controls planning operations, collaborating on complex cross-divisional initiatives and technical activities to develop an integrated strategic network and renewable energy plan that is cost effective and fully supports the rapidly transforming energy system and decarbonisation of the broader economy.
Your expertise
Essential
* Relevant degree qualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
* Demonstrated knowledge of power system plant characteristics and the ability to model power system plant (including associated generation and transmission control systems) and power system behaviour.
* Demonstrated knowledge and application of techniques to assess plant and power system performance.
* Demonstrated ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams to deliver projects, monitoring progress and achieve required outcomes within agreed timeframes.
* Demonstrated ability to report analytical results and recommendations for action to internal and external clients.
* Demonstrated knowledge of the National Electricity Rules (NER) with respect to the system standards and generator performance standards (GPS).
Desirable
* Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), or able to achieve within agreed timeframes.
