Summary: The Kitchen Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance of back-of-house areas including kitchen, electrical, and mechanical systems. Individual must possess a strong background and knowledge of such systems. Previous engineering experience is required, preferably in a hotel environment.Responsibilities:Install and set up new kitchen equipment, including ovens, stoves, grills, fryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, and other appliances.Inspect and troubleshoot kitchen equipment to identify issues, malfunctions, or potential problems.Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting equipment to ensure optimal performance and extend its lifespan.Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems in kitchen equipment, following the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines.Test and calibrate equipment to ensure accurate temperature, pressure, and other operational parameters.Keep detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, services performed, and equipment condition.Collaborate with kitchen staff and management to understand their equipment needs and provide recommendations for upgrades or replacements.Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulations related to kitchen equipment and appliances.Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working with electrical, gas, and other potentially hazardous systems.Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring that tools, equipment, and spare parts are properly stored and maintained.Qualifications:High School graduate or equivalent required.Technical degree in Engineering.2+ years as a Kitchen Mechanic preferred.A minimum of 3 years of hotel engineering experience preferred.HVAC, electrical, refrigeration, and building maintenance systems experience is required.Ability to organize, direct, plan and work with systems.Ability to troubleshoot and repair all mechanical, electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems in a timely manner.Ability to effectively maintain all equipment so less than 20% of all engineering staff time is spent on reactive.Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, Spanish and Papiamento preferred.Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.Availability for emergency purposes.Lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
