Community Engagement Officer - headspace Geraldton Youth Focus is a for-purpose organisation that creates brighter futures for young people in Western Australia by offering a range of no-cost mental health services. Established in 1994, Youth Focus delivers innovative and accessible mental health services and programs across Western Australia to help at-risk young people aged 12 to 25. A key component of this is our role as the lead agency for a number of headspace centres, including the dynamic and successful headspace Geraldton located on Yamatji Country. The headspace mission is to collaborate to design and deliver innovative ways of working with young people to strengthen their mental health and wellbeing. headspace Geraldton is part of a national network of over 150 headspace centres operating across Australia with the vision of all young Australians being supported to be mentally healthy and engaged in their communities. About the Role Youth Focus is seeking an experienced Community Engagement Officer to join the multi-disciplinary team of headspace Geraldton. The Community Engagement Officer works closely with the Centre Manager to: Increase awareness in the community about headspace Geraldton services, mental health literacy, and effective help seeking. Develop partnerships with local agencies, community groups, and sector networks to obtain better outcomes for youth mental health. Work directly with key stakeholders and communities to increase access to appropriate services for young people from 'at risk' populations including LGBTIQA+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, CaLD communities, young men, and young people who are homeless/ at risk of homelessness. Develop and deliver psychoeducation and training options for young people and workers that supports individual and community capacity building through providing information, education for health, and enhancing skills. Facilitate the Youth Reference Group and family and friends' engagement, and other activities to promote young people, and family and friends' participation in headspace Geraldton. Oversee all social media content posted by headspace Geraldton, ensuring it aligns with strategy while engaging our audience effectively. About You To be considered for this position, applicants will have: Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, such as Health Promotion, Allied Health, Education or Youth Work. Experience in delivering and evaluating community development projects/ programs or services. Demonstrated experience in the establishment and facilitation of youth reference groups, peer support or mentoring programs. Experience working collaboratively across disciplines, sectors and partners in a manner that enhances impact and sustainability. Experience in the use of social media and electronic technologies to support community engagement, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (advantageous). Passion for working with young people. High level community engagement skills including planning, developing information campaigns/briefings, consultation, partnership development and evaluation. Understanding of contemporary youth participation models and experience in the implementation of youth engagement strategies. Knowledge and understanding of the health and welfare issues affecting young people and families. Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a broad range of people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Developed organisational, administrative and project management skills. Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills. Self-motivation and direction with high level of autonomy.
