We have an exciting opportunity for a Health, Safety, Quality and Environment (HSQE) Manager to play a key role in supporting our companies across Western Australia.
This is a dynamic role where you will provide ongoing support to managers, supervisors and employees to ensure that operations are conducted in accordance with the requirements of the HSQE Management System.
This role is based out of our Naval Base – Western Australia office.
Key Accountabilities Technical Expertise •Work with managers and employees to ensure WHS and environment management are integral parts of the Ahrens culture.
•Continue to develop and integrate the HSQE Management System by assessing the needs of each business area and implementing systems and processes across the Group in accordance with AS and ISO •Ensure processes and procedures across the Group are relevant and complete, underpin efficient operation, and are standardised where appropriate.
•Utilise the Ahrens Intranet as a reference point for HSQE systems, policies and processes.
•Communicate new HSE systems, policies and procedures to employees and ensure requirements are understood.
•Lead internal auditing of operations from a HSQE perspective.
•On a rolling basis, assist business areas to review and audit their work systems, processes and procedures in order to maintain accreditation in AS and ISO.
•Ensure that learnings from business areas are communicated to other areas where relevant.
•Assist in project pre-planning to ensure project procedures and specifications reflect WHS and environmental factors.
•Where requested, contribute to the new acquisition due diligence process from a HSE perspective.
•Support managers and provide advice and ideas so they can meet their safety obligations.
•Work with supervisors and managers to improve Safe Operating Procedures and plant and equipment management.
•Lead accident and incident investigations.
•Identify training needs, maintain a national training matrix and organise and facilitate WHS training as required.
•Deliver Skytrust training to supervisors, managers and other employees where required.
Customer and Communication •Work with managers to continually develop and improve HSE systems and procedures and integrate HSE into the culture.
•Act as a reference point and provide advice as required to managers on WHS and environmental issues where they are complex or outside managers' expertise.
•Liaise with external auditors during accreditation audits.
Continuous Improvement •Contribute to the ongoing development of the Company.
•Identify innovative solutions and continually improve the Company's processed to meet the businessneeds.
•Contribute to the continuous improvement of the HSE Management System to meet business needsand AS and ISO requirements.
•Through constructive relationships with managers, influence them to build a continuous improvement philosophy into the company HSE culture.
Safety and Compliance •Be conversant and comply with Ahrens' Health, Safety, Environment and Quality policies and procedures as documented within the QHSE Management Systems.
In particular, ensure that you understand the QHSE responsibilities applicable to your role and report any hazards, incidents or concerns to your supervisor as soon as possible.
•Ensure early reporting of injuries and support rehabilitation and return to work practices, in accordance with company procedures.
•Regularly review high risk work/procedures on all Ahrens sites and ensure that appropriate risk management procedures are in place.
•Attend safety meetings where the opportunity arises and monitor toolbox meeting minutes.
Essential Criteria •Formal qualification in WHS and/or Environment or equivalent experience.
•Extensive experience in documenting policies and procedures.
•Extensive experience delivering WHS services to construction, manufacturing or production enterprises.
•In depth knowledge of WHS practices and principles and current legislative requirements, and hands on experience in monitoring and reviewing WHS systems, procedures and practices.
•Effective written and oral communication skills including proven skills in negotiating, developing and managing cooperative working relationships, and resolving issues constructively.
•Understanding of case management principles.
•Practical experience using safety management systems software.
•Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
•Current driver's license.
Qualifications in Work Health and Safety and Auditing; Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role within the construction, mining or manufacturing industries; Flexibility to travel to project sites in various locations across Australia; Applied First Aid competency; Current driver's license; Effective written and oral communication skills including skills in negotiating, developing and managing cooperative working relationships and resolving issues by reporting and negotiating; Practical experience using safety management systems software; General Knowledge of business and management principles involved in coordination of people and resources; Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel; Previous experience in a management role or leading a team (desirable).
