The School of Arts and Humanities (SAH) is committed to decolonisation and addressing wide-ranging impacts of climate change, particularly those that affect Aboriginal peoples and their connection to Country. This position of Project Officer will significantly contribute to these priorities by building strong partnerships and outcomes for Aboriginal-led climate justice.This position is situated within the SAH's climate justice research program, which involves several projects working alongside Aboriginal communities across Western Australia, including Whadjuk Boodja (Perth), Wardandi Boodja (Bunbury), Wilman Boodja (Collie), and the Kimberley. The climate justice research program involves projects for supporting community service organisations with climate justice and disaster resilience, inclusive community planning for net zero emissions, and youth wellbeing in a changing climate. Each project has a strong emphasis on place-based, Aboriginal-led, and Aboriginal-informed research and action. The projects are supported by Aboriginal Cultural Governance structures, which include Elders and Traditional Owners across Western Australia.The RoleThis role offers the unique opportunity to support Aboriginal leadership for fair and just climate action. As the Project Officer, you will engage with Aboriginal communities and partners across a range of community-led climate justice research projects.You will engage with the projects' Aboriginal Steering Group, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, and Aboriginal communities who are involved in the projects, as well as build relationships and strategic partnerships with potential Aboriginal partners and communities.
