Join to apply for the Senior Mechanical Engineer role at Andromeda RoboticsThe Bigger PictureAt Andromeda Robotics, we’re not just imagining the future of human-robot relationships—we’re building it. As a pioneering social robotics startup, our mission is to revolutionise how humans connect with technology by introducing Abi, the world’s first empathetic companion robot. With a heart full of compassion and a spirit of kindness, Abi creates deep, meaningful connections with people, making the world a little warmer, a little brighter, and a lot more connected.Your Role in the ActionAs a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Andromeda Robotics, you’ll be the driving force behind Abi’s mechanical design and development—from pioneering concept selection through to production-ready execution. You’ll set the strategic direction for structural and thermal systems, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure every component meets exacting performance, reliability, and manufacturability standards. Beyond hands-on design work, you’ll spearhead rigorous design reviews, mentor junior engineers, and refine processes for continuous improvement. How You’ll Make an ImpactServe as a key contributor to mechanical design, from concept through prototype to production, focusing on robust solutions that keep Abi’s performance consistent and dependable.Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners—electrical, software, and industrial design—to seamlessly integrate motors, sensors, and wiring into compact layouts that preserve Abi’s empathetic identity.Lead the mechanical architecture by designing joints, mechanisms, and transmissions that optimises mass, stiffness, and cost, ensuring every movement feels intuitive and reliable.Drive iterative improvements through rigorous testing, simulations, and design reviews, continually evolving prototypes based on real-world performance to stay at the cutting edge of social robotics.Create thorough documentation, testing protocols, and assembly guidelines that enable an efficient transition to volume production, extending Abi’s warmth and companionship worldwide.Bring junior engineers up to your level by sharing expertise and nurturing a collaborative environment that drives ongoing innovation and growth.RequirementsWhat We Are Looking ForBachelor’s/Masters/PhD degree in Mechanical, Biomechanical, Robotics, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field5+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience (beyond internships or co-ops), with a focus on mechanism design and manufacturabilityProficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, OnShape, or equivalent) for complex geometryExperience using FEA, simulations (e.g., MATLAB), and maintaining clear design documentationHands-on integration of actuators, sensors, motors, wire harnesses, and communication busesDemonstrated knowledge of kinematics, dynamics, and advanced manufacturing (e.g., additive, composites) for weight-optimised designsFamiliarity with PCB design and how it integrates into mechanical enclosuresProven ability to select materials and finishes for performance, sustainability, and cost-efficiencyExperience coordinating with suppliers on specs, timelines, and DFM for mid- to high-volume productionAbility to conduct in-depth failure analyses and contribute to FMEA processesBonus QualificationsExperience with design for manufacturing and design for assembly principles.Experience developing complex mechatronic assemblies with strain-wave, planetary, or cycloidal actuatorsProfessional experience in designing robots or mechatronic systems with multiple Degrees of FreedomIf you’re excited about this role but don’t meet every requirement, that’s okay—we encourage you to apply.
