This new role is with Thylation Operations Pty Ltd and reports to the General Manager.
Thylation Operations
Thylation Operations (Thylation) is a successful start-up moving to scale-up with excellent long-term lease revenue and a pipeline of ongoing large corporate customers all over Australia.
Our first product is the Felixer, a patented and automated tool triggered by edgeAI to control feral cats without harming wildlife.
The opportunity is to scale the manufacturing and bring down the unit cost so Thylation can provide more service to a greater number of customers.
The Role
The Felixer has a wide scope of engineering in its design, manufacture, operation, and servicing.
This includes custom PCB hardware and software, unique firing mechanisms and cartridge loading systems, a range of sensors, and an integrated AI Edge camera.
The Felixers logs and photos can then be loaded into a specially designed software portal for customers, administration, and leasing.
We are looking for an experienced engineer with a broad range of skills that encompass either a mechatronics degree or earlier equivalent in electronic and mechanical engineering background.
An ability to read and interpret software is essential, and an ability to write code and manage a range of software repositories is desirable.
An understanding or recent experience in EdgeAI would also be a great advantage.
A significant part of this role is in customer technical support.
An ability to work directly with remote customers by phone and email promptly is essential.
Technical support involves managing and tracking support jobs with customers, troubleshooting, repairs, preparing instructions for in-field repairs, and developing strong customer relationships.
This also involves managing an issues register, testing solutions, and for the ideal candidate would involve modifications to firmware.
As the business grows, it is expected additional technical and customer support staff would be employed under this role.
To develop the technical know-how, there will be time spent with the current manufacturer with some assembly time of new units to fully immerse into the product and provide the depth of knowledge to problem solve and see improvements.
The role will eventually manage part or all of the assembly, quality control, and testing of new Felixers as the product evolves.
Additionally, the setup and management of a small workshop and warehouse are required.
Felixers will be brought in for repair and end-of-lease refurbishment.
Managing a number of casual staff to do the assembly and basic servicing, cleaning, and cartridge loading is planned.
Initially, the role will require doing this work to understand what is involved.
Qualifications and Experience
Mechatronic degree or equivalent mechanical and/or electronic engineering experience.
Software skills 5 to 15 years experience with mixed engineering and technical support.
Experience in project managing outsourced engineering services.
Experience in small assembly production and inventory control.
Excellent history and demeanor managing customers.
An appreciation and desire to meet Thylation's objectives in the use of technology and tools to save threatened species.
