The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing microbiology media, stains, and reagents for local testing or transport to referral laboratories. Additionally, you will be responsible for dispatching media to referral laboratories and maintaining a safe working environment by cleaning instruments, equipment, and work areas in the laboratory. Demonstrated ability to follow written instructions, including laboratory manuals and basic maintenance procedures on laboratory equipment. A commitment to the maintenance of high professional standards and a demonstrated commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement. Knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of, procedure, policies and regulations which impact on the position, in particular the Queensland Health Code of Conduct, and a knowledge of contemporary human resource management issues such as workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination. Qualifications, registrations and other requirements While not mandatory, a relevant qualification would be well regarded, e.g. appropriate TAFE qualification such as Certificate in Laboratory Techniques, or equivalent. Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella. Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
