SUMMARY
The Senior Safety Specialist is responsible for overseeing and managing all safety protocols and initiatives on construction sites, ensuring that all operations comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations. As part of the Operations Team, this role works closely with superintendents, project managers, and construction personnel to implement and maintain a culture of safety throughout the organization. The Senior Safety Specialist plays a critical role in hazard identification, risk mitigation, and accident prevention, fostering a proactive safety-first approach in all construction activities. Additionally, this position promotes a corporate culture of safety excellence and continual improvement. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Field Safety
1. Work closely with the Operations team to align safety goals with operational objectives, ensuring that safety is a priority in project planning and execution.
2. Work in conjunction with the Ops and Field teams to create and maintain the company’s safety program, including training managers and employees.
3. Work closely with self-perform concrete division to provide concrete specific education and training.
4. In partnership with the General Superintendents and Project Management teams, create a site-specific safety plan for all Williams Company job sites.
5. Partner with Ops and Field team to plan and implement safety and health policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
6. Conduct quarterly site inspections to identify potential accidents or health hazards, determine corrective or preventative actions, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
7. Coordinate and manage safety incident investigations, including Worker’s Compensation injuries, property damage or theft, company vehicle incidents, and general liability, reporting to leadership and proper agencies as required.
8. Participate in onsite OSHA inspections, assisting the field personnel in the opening and closing of inspections, and will act as lead on all follow up with OSHA as required or if a formal citation and financial penalties occur to the employer on the job site after the visit.
9. Work with the Human Resources department on all worker’s compensation claims, assisting with return-to-work requests and other safety-related employee concerns.
10. Work with insurance companies and/or attorneys on legal matters regarding accident and injury investigations and regulatory compliance concerns involving fines and penalties.
11. Leads and provides annual instruction of CPR, OSHA 10, and OSHA 30 classes to help keep the workforce up to date in their certifications.
12. Lead and advise employees on various safety-related topics, ensuring they are available as subject matter expert.
13. Provide required signage, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual onsite safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
14. Create and maintain the company’s emergency preparedness response program to include regular updates and communications with team members.
15. Work with Ops and Field teams to establish department goals that reflect the successful completion of department responsibilities and align with company culture.
16. Provide regular recommendations of necessary safety equipment companywide.
Safety Compliance, Training & Administration
1. Train and mentor new safety specialists.
2. Partner with safety team members to ensure alignment behind organization goals, compliance items, and communication.
3. Partner with Ops and Field teams to create and maintain company safety manual(s).
4. Partner with internal parties and insurance carriers to manage incident claims according to company, OSHA, and legal requirements.
5. Review all subcontractor SDS / Safety plans for completeness and accuracy, making recommendations for best practices.
6. Review all crane pick plans for accuracy, making recommendations on best practices.
7. Liaise with General Superintendents to attend and present safety at all project kickoff meetings or presentations.
8. Attend and present safety topics at the monthly Project Management and Superintendent meetings.
9. Review project safety notices for consistency, accuracy, and context, guiding Ops and Field team members on the purpose of each notice.
10. Lead the internal Safety Committee meetings, providing updates on safety training and incident review, as well as determining ongoing safety initiatives.
11. Plan and create safety training content and plans monthly training rollout.
12. Prepare safety reports for subcontractors, management, and executive teams.
13. Present safety training for company-wide new employee orientations.
14. Stay up-to-date with all federal law and regulation changes to ensure company compliance with OSHA, insurance requirements, and coverage for all states where business is conducted.
15. Write and distribute safety bulletins and alerts for companywide distribution.
16. Assist with determining staffing needs and participate in the hiring process for the safety department.
17. Ensure organization of the Safety Department files and records.

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s degree in environmental safety and health, Occupational Safety, Risk Management, or another similar program.
2. 7 to 10 years of work experience in Environmental Health and Safety, with at least 4 years in construction.
3. CSP and/or CHST certifications or ability to obtain in the next 12 months.
4. Current OSHA 510 Standards for Construction Industry.
5. Current OSHA 500 Trainer Course for Construction or the ability to obtain within one year.
6. Certified in CPR with the ability to train others.
7. Strong working knowledge of OSHA standards, as well as state and federal laws related to Environmental Health and Safety.
8. Extensive experience in incident prevention, investigation, documentation, and reporting.
9. Experience with concrete-specific training a plus.
10. Ability to make effective decisions under pressure.
11. Ability to produce quality work efficiently with minimal supervision in an ever-changing environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Regular and consistent attendance is expected and a necessary component of the job.
2. Employee will be required to work a minimum of forty (40) hours per week or as many hours as it may take to perform the above job duties. The schedule may vary based on business demands and could require evening hours and/or weekends.
3. Employee is to wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) required while on any Williams Company Management Group (WCMG) construction site, including, but not limited to, a hard hat, high visibility vest, work boots, eye protection, and hearing protection.
4. Frequently moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces.
